Lucchesi wanted to sign us. At a meeting, he told us that time was of the essence, that we needed to get away from Jay and JAY RECORDS,
if we ever wanted to see any money from "RUMORS" - He offered us legal help and a small advance $7,500) to sign with him so we did. Two weeks later, we were at FANTASY STUDIOS recording tracks for an album.
About this time, Alex contacted a top-booking agency in New York by the name of NORBY WALTERS.
Alex negotiated 15 tour dates on the RUN DMC "RAISING HELL" TOUR.
So, with little more than half of the album done, we set out on the road. We were the opening act for THE BEASTIE BOYS, LL COOL J, WHODINI and RUN DMC.
After the contract of the initial 15 dates had ended, we
returned home to complete the album, but feelings had changed within the group.
Lead singer: MICHAEL MARSHALL, was not pleased with the amount of money he had received after
expenses, even though this was the same amount received by all members. Michael
then hired a personal manager Charles Douglas aka "Natty Prep" to communicate with the group. The rest of us found this to be uncalled for, but Michael had signed a contract with this guy.
Work continued on the album, but we kept getting calls from promoters who wanted to book the group when we weren't in the studio.
It was then that Michael stated that
he should be making more money than any member of the group should because he
was the lead singer. This would mean that: Alex, Kevin and I would have to take
a pay cut.
We did not want to work under those conditions and Michael's manager was not open for negotiation. Seeing that the advance from Danya had run out and we were not working at our regular day jobs, we had no choice but to book dates without Michael.
As soon as Lucchesi heard of this, he decided to get behind Michael.
